Our Story

Five decades on the same land, guided by a simple conviction: the land comes first, always.

A Single Plot of Exceptional Land

Raj Farms sits at over 900 metres in Shanivarasanthe, Kodagu, a district widely regarded as one of the finest coffee-growing regions in Asia. The estate borders the Brahmagiri range to the east and the dense evergreen forest of the Western Ghats to the west.

The altitude slows fruit development naturally. Cool nights extend the time each cherry spends on the plant, concentrating its sugars and deepening the flavour that eventually reaches your cup. Our estate sits within the altitude band that produces the best arabica Coorg has to offer. The laterite soil, rich in iron and organic matter, imparts a mineral complexity to our beans that cannot be replicated by any growing technique or processing method.

Shade-grown under silver oak and jackfruit trees, with pepper vines climbing the same canopy, our arabica and robusta co-exist in a multi-canopy system that preserves the soil, reduces water consumption and creates a natural habitat for the native rock bees that produce our forest honey.

The Terroir of the Western Ghats

Altitude and Slow Growth

Coffee grown at altitude develops more slowly. The cool nights of Coorg extend the time each cherry stays on the plant, concentrating its natural sugars and producing the bright acidity and complex sweetness our arabica is known for.

Laterite Soil

The iron-rich laterite of the Western Ghats provides excellent drainage and a mineral base that finds its way into the cup. No commercial growing medium or fertiliser can replicate what this soil gives naturally.

Forest Shade Canopy

Our coffee grows under a canopy of silver oak, jackfruit and wild forest trees. This reduces the rate of photosynthesis, slows fruit development and preserves the moisture and temperature consistency the plants need.

Monsoon Rainfall

Coorg receives over 2,500mm of rainfall annually, one of the highest in India. This natural rainfall maintains consistent soil moisture through the growing season, which is exactly what arabica and robusta need to develop properly.

Selective Hand Picking

Every cherry on our estate is hand-picked selectively, meaning only ripe red cherries are harvested. A single plant may be visited multiple times per season. This is the most labour-intensive way to harvest coffee and the most honest.

FSSAI Certified

Raj Farms holds a valid FSSAI registration for the processing and sale of coffee, honey and spices. Reg. No. 21223109000012. Every product that leaves our estate meets Indian food safety standards.

Pa & Ma
Hearts behind the harvest  ·  Raj Farms Coorg, Est. 1969

Pa grew up on this land. He learned which cherries to pick by watching his father, and learned when to roast by watching the smoke. He has never needed a thermometer or a timer. After five decades, the estate is as much a part of him as his hands.

Ma has been the quiet constant behind everything. The honey, the spices, the care in every packed order. When you receive something from Raj Farms, her attention is in every detail of it. Together, they have built something that could only come from people who never once thought of the farm as a business first.

Every order placed on this website is fulfilled personally by our family. We pack, we dispatch, and we follow up. There is no middleman. When you write to us on WhatsApp, you are writing to the people who grew your coffee.
